Our Demands

Free access to all contraceptive methods available in Quebec and for all medical coverage.

  • Every dollar invested in contraception could save up to $90 in public expenditures.
  • Upfront cost is cited as the main barrier to the use of long-acting contraceptive methods, which are considered to be the most effective and least expensive means of contraception in the long term.
  • This would help reduce socioeconomic inequalities between genders.

Improve the training for healthcare professionals on contraceptive methods to include counselling that supports freedom of choice.

  • A counseling service that provides clear, reliable information helps raise awareness of the diversity of contraceptive methods, and encourages greater compliance with the chosen method.
  • Free choice of contraceptive method is necessary, since it relies on the empowerment and autonomy of women, trans men, non-binary and Two-Spirit people. It is also about enabling women and people using contraception to make choices that best suit their health, lifestyle, values, and beliefs.
  • The best contraception is one that is freely choosen and used!

Increase funding for community organizations specializing in sexual and reproductive health

  • Access to information on the various contraceptive methods available is still uneven in Quebec, and constitutes a public health issue.
  • This would make it possible to offer programs and information tailored to the realities of certain marginalized populations or those who are more likely to be discriminated against by healthcare professionals on contraception issues (Indigenous people, 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, people living with a disability, BIPOC people, people experiencing homelessness, etc.).
  • This would give greater recognition to community organizations working in sexual and reproductive health that promote healthy, positive and fulfilling sexuality, an important component of global individual health.
